Frontier College in Ottawa

Short note here to let you know that Frontier College in Ottawa will be starting its fall recruitment shortly. Our annual Organizational Team (OT) Retreat will be held this Saturday and more information will be forthcoming shortly afterwards regarding new volunteer info-sessions, interviews, training sessions and start dates. If you have questions in the meantime, let us know at ottawa(at)frontiercollege(dot)ca!

Last week I also had the chance to meet John Barron, the new Frontier College Community Coordinator for Ottawa/Kingston at the TD Investors Meeting at the Marriott on Kent Street in Ottawa where Frontier College had a table to accept donations. John, Matthew (one of our former Rideau Reading Circle volunteers) and myself collected a number of books, as well as some financial donations for Frontier College, both here and elsewhere in Canada.

More Ottawa info coming soon!

I was just blogsurfing and I came across an old post on here... there's a Scrabble Night in Canada? An official one? Scrabble night with my friends here in Canada's deep south (Windsor) is the highlight of my week :).

Hi Rachel,

You bet there is! It's a relatively new fundraising initiative from Frontier College - this will be its third year. In short, February is "Scrabble month" and Frontier College invites people from all across Canada to play scrabble for literacy - either by hosting home parties with their friends or going to more public events. Players are to collect pledges and the money goes to Frontier College's literacy programs across Canada.

You can find more information at the official Scrabble Night in Canada site here: http://www.frontiercollegefoundation.ca/scrabble/en/index.html. We also have some stuff on what we did in Ottawa down the side of this blog.

Thanks for stopping by!

Hi,

I'm a new student at U Ottawa, just wondering where I can drop off a volunteer application form? I couldn't find the office at the Heartwood House. Should I just keep checking this site for volunteer information session times? Thanks!

Hi New U Ottawa Student :)

Great to hear that you want to volunteer and thanks for the post.

Yes, all the information on info sessions, recruiting etc... will be posted here. We also have a formal Frontier College Ottawa website here: http://www.frontiercollege.ca/english/programs/campus/ont/carleton.htm. It will be updated very soon and will have all the info.

However, you may just want to send an email to ottawa (at) frontiercollege (dot) ca. You'll be emailing the "soon to be announced" new Ottawa Intern who will be in charge of recruiting this year. In the email, just let us know who you are and which programs you are interested in or when you would be available to volunteer and we can take it from there.

Once the info sessions are posted, you can also bring the application form there and hand it in then. We also generally do some of the interviews after the info sessions.

You can also send me an email if you have any questions at lfhayes5(at)yahoo(dot)com.

Hope that helps!
